Parlour in Flame Jarrah
Images above show some of the stages in the construction of this parlour guitar.
The back and sides are from an Australian timber called Flamed Jarrah. This particular set was purchased from David Dyke Luthier Supplies a few years ago and they've been in my humidity controlled cabinet ever since. The soundboard is an Alpine spruce. This will be braced in a Falcate pattern with a slight variant where the curved braces will be laminated with a mix of two spruce layers and a central mahogany layer. Once laminated and shaped the braces will be pressed against the soundboard using a go-bar press with a carbon and resin bond agent between the brace and soundboard. There will be no upper carbon fibre/resin layer as the addition of the mahogany lamination will add extra stiffness to the assembly. The absense of the upper carbon will allow the braces to be tuned as the build progresses.
The neck is mahogany with a stacked heel, solid peghead and Gotoh 510Z tuners (black). Twelve frets to the body join with 20 frets in total. At present the fretboard will be either East Indian Rosewood or Ebony with a decision on that being made as the build progresses. The bridge likewise will match the fretboard.
